Making Waves: Our Bali Beach Clean-Up Success!
On March 21st, 2025, the One Life Adventures team came together for a Travel for Change initiative, our Bali Beach Clean-Up at Kedonganan Beach in the South Kuta area. This event was not just about cleaning up; it was about giving back to the local community, protecting our environment, and strengthening our team spirit. And what a success it was!
A Morning of Impact
Starting bright and early at 7 AM, our team gathered with ZeroWaste Center, a non-profit organisation dedicated to environmental sustainability. Armed with gloves, waste bags, and a shared commitment to making a difference, we hit the shores ready to tackle the growing issue of waste pollution.
In less than one hour, the team collected an incredible 159.4 kg of waste. This staggering amount highlights the urgent need for consistent clean-up efforts, especially during Bali’s rainy season, when washed-up waste (waste brought in by ocean currents) floods the beaches. The waste that washes ashore consists of plastic, fishing nets, and other debris, all of which pose a serious threat to marine life and the coastal ecosystem.
Why This Matters
Bali’s beaches are world-famous, but behind their beauty lies a growing environmental crisis. The combination of tourism, improper waste disposal, and seasonal currents result in massive amounts of trash accumulating along the coastline. In early January 2025, tons of washed-up waste flooded most of the coastline in South Kuta, and around 2,000 volunteers dedicated to cleaning up the waste in 6 days managed to collect 25 tonnes of waste.
As the rainy season is still not over, the washed-up waste keeps coming to the coastline. One Life’s team clean-up was a step toward addressing this issue, while raising awareness among our team about the importance of waste management and sustainability.
Beyond the physical impact of removing waste, the event also served as an opportunity to learn. ZeroWaste Center shared valuable insights on responsible waste management and simple ways we can all contribute to reducing pollution in our daily lives.
More Than Just a Clean-Up
This initiative wasn’t just about picking up trash, it was about coming together as a team, embracing our company’s commitment to sustainability, and making a small, tangible difference in the world. It was also a great chance to celebrate our journey as a company, capturing special moments and reflecting on our shared values.
What’s Next?
Our work doesn’t stop here! One Life Adventures remains committed to supporting environmental initiatives and spreading awareness about responsible travel. We hope to continue hosting and participating in similar activities across our destinations.
A huge thank you to everyone who participated and made this event a success. Together, we are proving that small actions can lead to a big impact. Stay tuned for more sustainability initiatives on our page and ways to get involved.
